Answer: It would depend on the type of plastic and how it is finished. But one of the best things about Scrub Daddy is, if you put it in cold water, it is very stiff and 'scratchy' but soaked in soft water, it is very soft - using it with hot would perhaps work better on a soft surface. -

Answer: I don't have a dishwasher, but I'd say probably not. It's not very heavy, and would get blown around by the water and probably end up melting on the heater in the bottom. I've never had a problem with it getting any kind of smell before it wore out, though, just squeeze it dry.
