LaCie Rugged RAID Shuttle 8TB External Hard Drive Portable HDD - USB-C USB 3.0 compatible, Drop Shock Dust Water Resistant, for Mac and PC Computer

** LaCie 8TB External Drive** The LaCie 8TB External Drive brings together substantial storage capacity and portability, aimed primarily at users needing to manage large files, such as video professionals. Its appealing bus-powered feature allows it to run off a USB-C port, which is convenient for modern devices, particularly recent Mac models. However, this reliance on USB-C can pose compatibility issues, as the drive fails to operate with USB-A converters, meaning users may have to deal with external power adapters – a significant drawback for those expecting a fully portable experience. The drive is configured as a RAID with two 4TB units, which gives users flexibility regarding data redundancy or performance but can complicate its use. Users noted that the RAID configuration is not ideal for certain setups, particularly with gaming Consoles such as the PS5, as it requires the device to recognize a single un-raided drive. This limitation might be a deal-breaker for potential customers looking for a drive compatible with gaming Consoles or those unfamiliar with RAID configurations. While users lauded the drive's ability to manage 4K video editing efficiently with acceptable transfer speeds, many expressed disappointment regarding its physical size and overall speed, especially when writing large amounts of data via USB 3.0. Some users reported prolonged writing times and potential issues with durability, indicating that not all users can count on the device's longevity, especially with concerns arising from the power connector's reliability. In summary, while the LaCie 8TB External Drive offers good storage capabilities and decent performance for video editing, potential buyers should be aware of its limitations regarding power requirements and compatibility with certain devices, alongside concerns about its build quality. **
